Hospital staff deserve praise

MY husband, Gareth, has Alzheimers. He was born and bred in Pontardawe and moved to London after being made redundant from the steel works. He was employed for 30 years by the MCC at Lord's cricket ground; working his way up to become estates manager. He is well known in Wales, England and world-wide by the cricketing fraternity.

He is now a patient in Cefn Coed. Alzheimers patients are like little children. The difference being children learn and understand as they are growing up. Alas, these patients are just going backwards without any reasoning or comprehension.

The staff consult me every time if a change in medication or whatever, is needed to improve my husband's well-being. It is so easy to criticise; we know it is not home-from-home, but those of us who are dealing with this 'living death' at first hand, fully appreciate the care and dedication given by the staff at Cefn Coed. It doesn't cost anything to say thank you for doing a job that we are unable to do ourselves.

Best wishes Cefn Coed, and a big thank you to you all from me and, no doubt, many other carers in the same situation.
