Clippers 4, IronPigs 1 Columbus reclaimed the Governors' Cup as starter Paolo Espino (1-0, 1.29 ERA) struck out five in seven innings to defeat host Lehigh Valley (Pa.) on Friday to win the International League championship.
Third baseman Jared Goedert hit a homer for Columbus, which scored two runs in the second inning and one in the third to give Espino the lead. 2B Argenis Reyes had three hits and scored a run.
Chen Lee got the save, pitching two perfect innings while striking out four.
The Clippers advance to the Class AAA National Championship on Tuesday in Albuquerque, N.M.
Notes: Columbus defeated LHP Ryan Edell. The Clippers went 28-27 (.509) against left-handers in the regular season and 3-0 in the playoffs.
Advanced A Kinston Indians
Keys 11, Indians 3 Frederick (Md.) used an 11-run third inning to win the Carolina League Mills Cup in Kinston, N.C.
SS Manny Machado highlighted the big inning with a three-run homer off Francisco Jimenez, who gave up five runs (three earned) in 2 1/3 innings. Kinston reliever Cody Allen was charged with six unearned runs in the inning.
OF Jordan Casas hit a homer and had two RBI for the Indians.
