Clippers, Aeros, Captains win: Minor League Report

Third baseman Jose Lopez, in his season debut with the Clippers, knocked in three runs as Columbus won at Toledo in an International League game.

AAA Columbus Clippers

Clippers 7, Mud Hens 1

Third baseman Jose Lopez, in his season debut with the Clippers, knocked in three runs as Columbus won at Toledo in an International League game. Lopez hit two doubles and a single. Right fielder Chad Huffman slugged his third homer for Columbus. Chris Seddon (3-1) gave up one earned run in six innings and picked up the win.

Notes: Lopez hit .190 in 21 at-bats for the Indians this season.

AA Akron Aeros

Aeros 5, Baysox 0

Steve Wright (3-1) tossed a complete-game five-hitter as Akron won an Eastern League game at Bowie, Md. Wright struck out six and walked two. The right-hander finished with a flourish, striking out the side in the ninth. He lowered his ERA to 1.13. Akron turned three double plays.

Notes: The most recent Aero to pitch a complete-game shutout was Jeanmar Gomez, who blanked the Trenton Thunder on May 21, 2009.

Advanced A Carolina Mudcats

Keys 1-2, Mudcats 0-3

Carolina scored in the bottom of the 10th inning of the nightcap to gain a split with Frederick, Md., in a Carolina League doubleheader. Right fielder Carlos Moncrief led off with a triple and scored on a wild pitch to end the game. Michael Goodnight (1-2) was the hard-luck loser in the seven-inning opener. He gave up one run in five innings, but the Mudcats managed only four hits.

Notes: In the first game, Frederick swiped five bases, including a steal of home, and scored a run on a suicide squeeze.

A Lake County Captains

Captains 6, Hot Rods 2

Lake County scored five in the fifth and won a Midwest League game in Bowling Green, Ky. Right fielder Jordan Smith had a two-run single in the rally and has 12 RBI for the season. Cole Cook (1-1) pitched three scoreless innings in relief for the win. Grant Sides picked up his first save, pitching two scoreless innings.

Notes: The Captains, who had 12 hits, recorded 10 or more hits in a game for the 13th time this season.
