Advanced A Carolina Mudcats
Red Sox 8-1, Mudcats 6-4
DH Jeremie Tice (.321) homered in both games as host Carolina split a Carolina League doubleheader with Salem (Va.). Mudcats LHP J.D. Reichenbach (2-0, 3.80) pitched three innings of scoreless relief to earn the victory in the second game.
RF Carlos Moncrief (.237) hit a two-run homer, but Carolina lost the opener. Mudcats LHP Mike Rayl (3-4, 3.53) allowed seven runs -- six earned-- in 2 innings in the first game. Carolina sent nine different hitters to the plate, and each one had one hit.
In the second game, 2B Ronny Rodriguez (.24) and C Dwight Childs (.167) each had two hits for the Mudcats. Jose Flores (1.02) hit a batter but got through the seventh inning for his seventh save.
AAA Columbus Clippers
Chiefs 5, Clippers 1: RHP Corey Kluber (3-3, 3.38 ERA) allowed five runs, nine hits and two walks in 41/3 innings as host Columbus lost to Syracuse (N.Y.) on Tuesday in an International League contest. Kluber struck out six but gave up two homers.
2B Cord Phelps (.276) had two hits for the Clippers. LF Matt LaPorta (.331) went 1-for-4 for Columbus, and SS Jason Donald (.333) went 1-for-3 with a walk. Clippers RHP Hector Ambriz (2.86) pitched 2 innings of scoreless relief.
AA Akron Aeros
Aeros 8, SeaWolves 1
LF Jared Goedert (.383) homered twice in a 4-for-4 night, CF Tim Fedroff (.333) and SS Juan Diaz (.235) also went deep, and LHP T.J. McFarland (7-1, 1.86) pitched seven scoreless innings as Akron won an Eastern League contest in Erie, Pa. Goedert drove in three runs and scored three runs. McFarland, who turns 23 next month, allowed three hits, walked none and struck out six. Aeros 3B Kyle Bellows doubled twice and drove in two runs.
A Lake County Captains
Captains 4, Loons 1: RHP Cody Anderson (4-1, 1.89) allowed two hits, one walk and no runs in six innings as host Lake County defeated Great Lakes (Mich.) in Midwest League play. RHP Cole Cook (4.18) finished off the three-hitter by allowing one hit over three innings for his second save.
SS Francisco Lindor (.319) and C Alex Monsalve (.234) each had two hits and one RBI for the Captains.
