A Liverpool businessman, who had a synagogue hall named in his honour has been charged with defrauding cancer charities of more than £250,000.
Harris Polak and his wife Reva, prominent members of Liverpool's Childwall Synagogue, appeared before magistrates on Tuesday.
Mr Polak is suspected of taking "substantial sums" of money he raised for cancer charities partly by standing outside shops with collection boxes.
