Manitoba tops Lake Erie, splits North showdown

The teams split two games in two days and are tied for first place atop the American Hockey League's Western Conference North Division.

WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- The Manitoba Moose cooled off the visiting Lake Erie Monsters with a 4-2 victory Saturday night.

The teams split two games in two days and are tied for first place atop the American Hockey League's Western Conference North Division.

The Monsters entered the game with an 8-1-0-1 record over their past 10 games.

Lake Erie trailed, 4-0, on Saturday before Ben Walter, the team's leading scorer, notched his 18th goal of the season at 17:11 of the third period.

Luke Walker scored with a minute left to provide the final margin.

Jason Bacashihua started in goal for the Monsters but was pulled for Trevor Cann after Mario Bliznak scored to put the Moose up, 4-0, at 8:17 of the second period. Bacashihua stopped 19 of 23 shots.
