A YOUNG woman was shocked when she looked across the road one night and saw a naked man, sitting on a doorstep and smoking a cigarette.
A court heard that the 41-year-old, from Brynaman, had deliberately exposed his genitals to the woman because he wanted to have sex with her.
Appearing in court, Enir Wyn Jones denied four charges of exposure with intent to cause alarm or distress.
After the trial on Thursday, he was found guilty of one of the charges.
Carmarthen magistrates heard three offences allegedly happened between June 30 and August 1, 2010, and one charge happened in the early hours of August 25.
Jones, who works for the DVLA, now lives with his long-term partner in Llanelli. The court heard he had posted a lewd note to the woman in which he said she "looked amazing" and he wanted to have sex with her.
Addressing the court by video-link, the woman, who can not be named for legal reasons, said: "I felt sickened. I phoned my boyfriend at the time and he urged me to call the police.
"While I was on the phone to the police, I looked through the window and could see he was sitting on a doorstep and I could see he was naked.
"He was smoking a cigarette and staring across."
Prosecutor Dennis Davies said Jones had admitted drinking two bottles of wine. He asked Jones: "Did you want sex with her? Is that your chat-up line?"
"Obviously, I got the wrong end of the stick," said Jones.
He was embarrassed of the note and added: "It's totally out of character.
"I don't know why I a wrote it. It's just something silly." He denied exposing himself.
Defence solicitor Gary Jones said the woman had made up the allegations because she was friendly with Jones and her boyfriend at the time was jealous.
Mr Jones pointed out that the woman had failed to report the three previous incidents until two weeks after Jones's arrest.
He said to her: "This man exposed himself four times and you mentioned nothing to the police about the previous three occasions? I put to you that you said nothing because they did not happen."
In a dramatic twist, prosecutor Mr Davies asked the investigating officer, Constable Shane Smith, to check back through his pocket notebook.
It was revealed the woman had in fact told the officer but it had been misunderstood and not written down on the official statement until later.
But the magistrates said there was insufficient evidence on the three earlier charges and returned not guilty verdicts.
They ruled however that Jones was guilty of exposure on August 25 and found him guilty on that charge.
The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report and Jones will appear again in court on March 3.
