Appel puts Pinner JFC back on top

WATFORD FRIENDLY LEAGUE GREEN DIVISION
Pinner JFC 1 Whetstone Wanders Lions 0

A first-half strike from Guy Appel took Pinner JFC back to the top of the Under Nine Green Division following a hard fought encounter against Whetstone Wanders Lions.

In their first home game of the New Year, the Sky Blues took on Whetstone Wanderers Lions where a win would see them back on top of the Green Division due to the cancellation of other games in the group.

Pinner made a lively start and forced the issue throughout the first half, bossing the game and playing the majority of it in the Whetstone half.

The pressure paid off when a lightning breakaway run down the left wing saw Ben 'the Bullet' Green slice open the Wanderers defence with a sublime cross, finished off in an equally sublime manner by striker Appel to slot the ball neatly into the back of the Wanderers net, 10 minutes in.

The second period was much of the same with the Sky Blues going close on several occasions, with Wanderers only troubling the home side keeper on one or two occasions.

Pinner should have sealed it when Green went one-on-one with the keeper only to see the ball skim the outside of the Wanderers post.

The margin of victory should have been more emphatic but for some poor finishing.
