Young artist puts on Shoah exhibit

A striking series of artworks by a former pupil of the King Solomon High School in Redbridge are on exhibition at the London Jewish Cultural Centre to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.

Ela Ward, 18, produced the exhibition, My Jewish Roots, as her commitment to "each new generation ensuring that the atrocities of the Holocaust are not forgotten".

Now studying painting at Nottingham Trent University, Ela was born in Tel Aviv, spent her childhood in Eilat and came to Chigwell at the age of 11. She visited Auschwitz with a King Solomon group.

For three years, the LJCC's Fusion department has worked closely with King Solomon, offering activities including workshops on the Holocaust.

King Solomon head Spencer Lewis said: "Ela is an incredibly talented artist. I am proud that it was our school trip to Poland that inspired her to produce work of such insight and quality." The exhibition runs until February 1.
