Buffalo's bats overwhelm Columbus: Minor-league report

Chen, Sanchez homer in Akron loss; Kinston's Rayl struggles vs. Myrtle Beach; Captains' Rodriguez belts two homers in defeat; Scrappers nipped by Batavia; Davis homer not enough for Lake Erie

AAA Columbus Clippers

Bisons 15, Clippers 3: SS Argenis Reyes (.281) doubled twice and drove in two runs, but host Columbus got pounded by Buffalo (N.Y.) in International League play Saturday. Clippers RH Joe Martinez (8-7, 4.15 ERA) allowed four runs in 5 innings before the Bisons teed off on two Columbus relievers. RH Chen Lee (2.45) gave up four runs in an inning and LH Eric Berger (15.83) seven runs in 21/3 innings. RF Chad Huffman (.245) and LF Jerad Head (.284) also had two hits each for Columbus.

AA Akron Aeros

Flying Squirrels 8, Aeros 6: DH Chun Chen (.265) hit a three-run homer, and 2B Karexon Sanchez (.215) also homered, but Akron lost an Eastern League contest in Richmond, Va. After Aeros RH Brett Brach (3.27) allowed five runs -- four earned -- in five innings, RH Adam Miller (1-4, 6.27) gave up three runs -- two earned -- in an inning. Sanchez and CF Jordan Henry (.255) had three hits each for Akron. 3B Kyle Bellows (.231), who doubled, and SS Juan Diaz (.255) each had two hits.

Advanced A Kinston Indians

Pelicans 7, Indians 2: LH Mike Rayl (1-2, 4.67) gave up six runs in five innings as Kinston lost a Carolina League game in Myrtle Beach, S.C. 3B Adam Abraham (.250) had two doubles for the K-Tribe. Myrtle Beach tagged Rayl for eight hits -- two homers -- and three walks. He struck out three.

A Lake County Captains

TinCaps 9, Captains 4: SS Ronny Rodriguez (.254) had two homers and four RBI, but host Lake County lost a South Atlantic League contest to Fort Wayne (Ind.). CF Luigi Rodriguez (.280) collected three hits for the Captains. RH Felix Sterling (4.76) allowed three runs in five innings.

A Mahoning Valley Scrappers

Muckdogs 5, Scrappers 4: RH Will Roberts (2.93) allowed three runs -- two earned -- in five innings as Mahoning Valley lost to host Batavia (N.Y.) in New York-Penn League play. DH Jake Lowery (.251) doubled twice, and RF Bryson Myles (.301) and 1B Jerrud Sabourin (.218) also had two hits each for the Scrappers.

Independent Lake Erie Crushers

ThunderBolts 5, Crushers 4: Andrew Davis homered for host Lake Erie, but Windy City (Ill.) scored five times in the eighth.
