Cohen takes positives out of MGB Futsal League debut

Maccabi GB Futsal narrowly missed out on a third place finish in their first season in the National Futsal League Southern Division Two.

The team, managed by Jonny Cohen, finished the campaign by taking four points from a possible 12 on Matchday Five at the GL1 Leisure Centre in Gloucester.

In what was a disappointing end to a promising campaign, Cohen commented: "On reflection there have been many positives from our experience in playing our debut season.

"The entire experience has been a huge learning curve. The team and I have learnt a lot about the game itself and the highly intense experience of playing four games in one day. To compete against the calibre of opposition we faced in these Match Days you need to take a squad of 10-12 players and we often turned up with just seven due to injury and a small squad.

"Having said that it is a commonly agreed fact that in phases our team played the best futsal and with a young squad things can only get better.

"I believe the format of the league will change next season and hopefully we will have conventional - in terms of a stopping clock - futsal matches on a regular home and away basis.

"With it being a Maccabiah year I am hoping that the strength of our squad will improve.

"Trials will be held in the coming months and the National League matches will form the basis of our preparation for the Maccabiah in Israel 2013.

"If you haven't done so already please register for a trial at the Maccabi GB website."
