A Holocaust hero whose resistance efforts were immortalised in the film Defiance has praised the IDF for its exemplary conduct.
Aharon Bielski is the youngest of the four brothers who led a resistance effort against the Nazis in the forests of modern-day Belarus between 1942 and 1944.
From a small group they built a community hidden deep in the forest and became an effective resistance force, saving more than 1,000 people from the Nazis.
The brothers launched their resistance efforts after their parents and two brothers were murdered by the SS, prompting them to flee into the forests.
Mr Bielski, who later fought for Israel during the war of Independence, visited IDF soldiers in the Galilee this week.
He told soldiers: "No army in the world conducts itself as humanely as you do."
The 2008 film, which starred Daniel Craig and Jewish actor Liev Schreiber, showed the Bielski Partisans as fighters who took on the Nazis
Mr Bielski, now in his 80s, in the only one of the brothers still alive.
