St. Edward product Alex Lavisky learning the ropes as a professional ballplayer.
Anthony Gallas of Strongsville High School and Kent State and Alex Lavisky of St. Edward are farmhands in the Indians organization, both currently playing for the Class A Lake County Captains. They will share their thoughts on the season in an occasional blog.
A year ago, Lavisky was busy helping St. Edward in the state baseball tournament. Now he's adjusting to life in pro ball. He's played in 31 games, splitting his time between catching and DH duties. He's hitting just .195, but has seven doubles, three homers and 14 RBI.
Lavisky filed this update following Sunday's 3-2 loss at Dayton:
So far this year I'm having a blast! In some people's eyes, and in my own, "I'm living the dream".
This year so far has been an exciting experience, especially for a young baseball player like myself starting his first professional season. Everything from playing ball, to traveling from nice park to nice park, or from just being with the guys has been exciting, but yet very new for me. Regardless, I'm having fun with it and I enjoy the challenges of playing at home and playing for your hometown team day in and day out.
Although adjusting so far to my first year has been tough, I find myself slowly getting used to the competition while getting better each day. At this point I'm on the right track, along with our team. We've dropped a couple games, but we're still playing well. The pitching has been superb and we always play defense.
If a couple calls go our way and we just learn to finish games in the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings, we'll be a force to reckon with down the road.
