Week ahead: Rain and showers for most - Feeling chilly, Sep 17 - 06:44

Gales in the north at times Areas of low pressure in the Atlantic will dominate the weather scene for the upcoming week as fronts spread rain in from the west followed by showers. Temperatures will show little overall change through the week. For the weather for the next few days click here Tuesday 20/09/11 Outbreaks of rain heavier rain in the far south this morning are expected to spread up into central parts of England and East Anglia in the afternoon. The rest of Britain will have a day of sunshine and showers though few showers for northern England. Expect highs of 13 to 17C.

Wednesday 21/09/11 It remains unsettled across northern Britain with gusty winds and it's another showery day to come, though rain is expected for northern Scotland. Any residual rain left in the south east soon clears to sunnier spells. Highs of 13 to 17C.

Thursday 22/09/11 It's a day of sunshine and showers, some heavy in the north west but it looks to be fair and dry across the eastern half of England with sunny spells. Expect highs of 14 to 18C.

Friday 23/09/11 Outbreaks of rain are forecast for Northern Ireland and northern Scotland today. Largely dry and bright for the rest of Britain apart from a few showers across West Wales. Rain comes into western areas tonight. Expect highs of 12 to 17C.

Saturday 24/09/11 After a fair, dry morning across East Anglia and the south east, persistent rain across the rest of the country spreads in during the afternoon. Gales develop in the north today. Highs of 12 to 17C. Sunday 25/09/11 Another wet, windy day for much of the United Kingdom as another area of heavy rain in the west spill eastward during the day. Expect highs of 12 to 16C.
