AAA Columbus Clippers

AA Akron Aeros
Senators 6-2, Aeros 1-1: Harrisburg (Pa.) pitchers stifled the Aero hitters in a doubleheader sweep at Canal Park in Akron. Harrisburg scored five in the top of the eighth inning of the opener to break the game open. Former major leaguer Orlando Hernandez earned his first victory with four strikeouts over 21/3 perfect innings of work. In the nightcap, Akron starter Matt Packer (0-2), took the loss, giving up two runs, both earned, and six hits in five innings.
Advanced A Kinston Indians
Indians 9, Pelicans 2: Kinston (N.C.) defeated Myrtle Beach (S.C.) in a game called in the top of the seventh by rain. K-Tribe starter Joe Gardner (11-5, 2.81) picked up his Carolina League-leading eleventh win of the season. He gave up five hits and one earned run in five innings.
A Lake County Captains
Dragons 12 Captains 7: Dayton outslugged visiting Lake County in a Midwest League game. Captains starter Trey Haley (5-9) was raked for six runs, five earned, in 4 innings. Adam Abraham clubbed his 12th homer for the Captains, a solo shot in the second inning.
Notes: Left fielder Delvi Cid swiped second base for his 63rd stolen base of the season. He has been thrown out 14 times. Cid, a native of the Dominican Republic, is hitting .257 with two home runs and 32 RBI in 460 at-bats.
A Mahoning Valley Scrappers
Spikes 4, Scrappers 0: Four State College (Pa.) pitchers combined on a three-hitter and shut out visiting Mahoning Valley in a New York-Penn League game. Cole Cook (0-1), gave up two runs, both earned, in four innings, and was the losing pitcher.
Independent Lake Erie Crushers
Crushers 2-3, Miners 1-1: Lake Erie swept Southern Illinois in a Frontier League doubleheader in Avon. Matt Smith matched a franchise record with 10 strikeouts in the nightcap, throwing 6 innings to secure his ninth victory. Lake Erie won despite managing only two hits. Josh Roberts pitched his second complete game of the season for the Crushers in the opener.
