Seth Cohen, still the same after all these Chismukkahs
If someone (me?) was ever to rank television's greatest Jewish characters, my vote might go Seth Cohen, the geeky, Jew-fro-sporting, wisecrack-making son of Kirsten and Sandy in the pop culture phenomenon that was The OC.
Josh Schwartz's drama series might have centred on the lives of the rich and fabulous in Southern California, but at the heart of the affair was an idealistic Jewish lawyer from the Bronx and his son.
Adam Brody, the actor who brought Seth to life for four seasons, has been out of the spotlight since the series wrapped. But according to New York Magazine, he's back. In an interview with him this week, there was a gem that could have come from the mouth of Seth himself.
His latest film is set on America's East Coast. How did a San Diego-born actor cope with that?
"You know, I just don’t say 'dude' and I don’t say 'you know' and it sort of takes care of itself. My parents are from Detroit, which I guess is the Midwest. They’re Jews...It gives you an East Coast feel. You get a little more neurosis, perhaps."

Steve Karsay, Scott Erickson hired as minor league pitching coaches by Cleveland Indians

Steve Karsay pitched for the Indians from 1998-2001.CLEVELAND, Ohio -- There is a big-league flavor to the Indians minor league coaching staff.
Former big leaguers Steve Karsay and Scott Erickson have been hired as pitching coaches. Karsay, who pitched 11 seasons in the big leagues, will coach the Indians' Arizona Rookie League pitchers. Erickson will coach at Class A Carolina.
Karsay pitched with the Indians from 1998 through 2001. Erickson went 142-136 in 15 big-league seasons. He won 20 games for the world champion Twins in 1991. It will be Karsay and Erickson's first professional coaching jobs.
Francisco Cabrera is the new hitting coach for the Tribe's Dominican Summer League team. It was Cabrera's two-run pinch-hit single that won Game 7 of the 1992 NLCS for Atlanta against Pittsburgh.
The new field coordinator will be Rob Leary, who spent the last nine years working with the Red Sox. He replaces Tom Wiedenbauer, promoted to first base coach on Manny Acta's big league staff.
Mickey Callaway is the new pitching coordinator. He replaces Dave Miller, who was promoted to Acta's staff as bullpen coach. Callaway was the pitching coach at Class A Kinston last year.
Here are the other coordinators: Alan Zinter, hitting; Travis Fryman, infield; James Quinlan, rehab; Jake Beiting, strength and conditioning. The Indians still need to hire a base running/outfield coordinator to replace Gary Thurman, who was hired by the Marlins to be on Ozzie Guillen's staff.
The Latin America staff stays the same with Nelson Perez, strength and conditioning, Julio Rangel, mental skills coordinator and Lino Diaz, cultural development coordinator. Johnny Goryl, Ken Rowe and Minnie Mendoza remain as advisors.
As for changes in minor league managers, Dave Wallace moves from short-season Class A Mahoning Valley to Class A Lake County. Ted Kubiak, who managed Lake County last season, will take over Mahoning Valley.
Edwin Rodriguez, as previously announced, will manage Class A Carolina. Rodriguez managed the Marlins last year before getting fired.

Class AAA Columbus: Mike Sarbaugh, manager, Phil Clark, hitting; Ruben Niebla, pitching, Michael Salazar, athletic trainer.
Class AA Akron: Chris Tremie, manager, Rouglas Odor, hitting, Tony Arnold, pitching, Chad Wolfe, athletic trainer.
Class A Carolina: Edwin Rodriguez, manager, Scott Erickson, pitching, Jeremy Heller, athletic trainer. Hitting coach has yet to be hired.
Class A Lake County: Dave Wallace, manager, Jim Rickon, hitting, Jeff Harris, pitching, Bobby Ruiz, athletic trainer.
Class A Mahoning Valley: Ted Kubiak, manager, Tony Mansolino, hitting, Greg Hibbard, pitching, Matt Beauregard, athletic trainer.
Rookie League Arizona Indians: Anthony Medrano, manager, Steve Karsay, pitching, Junior Betances, hitting, Dennis Malave, coach, Ted Blackwell, athletic trainer.
Rookie Dominican Summer League Indians: Max Diaz, manager; Mario Brito, pitching, Francisco Cabrera, hitting, Carlos Fermin, coach, Miguel Ledesma, athletic trainer.

According to the Mail on Sunday, disgraced MP Aidan Burley not only sat beside his friend who wore full Nazi uniform at the now notorious French stag party, but Burley actually ordered the uniform.
This rather begs the question of not only Burley's own judgment, which we may accept is dubious, but in the Conservative Friends of Israel rush to cover him with the mantle of their blessing. "Not an antisemitic bone in his body," the CFI declared. That would be the non-antisemitic bones which persuaded him to order an SS uniform, I imagine.
Who's kidding who, here?
Burley himself, asked directly why he hadn't got up and left the event when someone appeared in SS dress, burbled something weaselly about its being difficult to leave somewhere when one was 800 miles up a mountain. Now we know: he was protecting his investment.

Sunday A miserable day to come across England and Wales today as heavy rain in the south spreading into all parts this morning. This heavy rain persists into the afternoon across northern England but will be replaced by showers in the south in the afternoon. This heavy, driving rain will be accompanied by severe gale forces winds up to 60 mph. Parts of England may see 30-40mm with a risk of local flooding. Most of Scotland and Northern Ireland will have a dry day with sunny spells though rain reaches southern Scotland in the afternoon. Temperatures will be suppressed with highs today of 6 to 12 Celsius.
Sunday night Strong northeast winds will continue across northern England into Scotland for this evening and tonight. Heavy rain is expected across Scotland and Northern Ireland and perhaps a pulse of heavy rain comes into south west England tonight. The rest of England and Wales will be mainly dry but cloudy. Expect minimum temperatures tonight of 5 to 8 Celsius.
Monday For much of Monday some rain is expected to persist across Northern Ireland and northern Scotland, this turning light and patchy by afternoon. For England and Wales expect a mixture of sunnier spells and occasional showers. The showers will be heavy with a risk of thunder. Heavy showers continue across southern England and Wales this evening with rain in the night. Rather cloudy to the north with a few spots of rain. Expect maximum temperatures today of 10 to 16 Celsius.
Tuesday A warmer, breezy day to come. Expect some morning rain across Northern Ireland into northern England and Wales with showers across The Midlands. Most of Scotland will be dry with a risk of showers for most of Britain in the afternoon. Much of the country will be dry albeit cloudy tonight. High temperatures today of 12 to 18 Celsius.
