Hodges, Sutton lead the offense as Columbus Clippers top Toledo: Minor league report

Wes Hodges was a triple away from hitting for the cycle, and Drew Sutton homered, singled and drove in two runs as host Columbus edged Toledo, 4-3.

MINOR-LEAGUE REPORT

AAA Columbus Clippers

Clippers 4, Mud Hens 3: 1B Wes Hodges (.273) was a triple away from hitting for the cycle, and 2B Drew Sutton (.269) homered, singled and drove in two runs as host Columbus edged Toledo on Monday in International League play. LHP David Huff (3.98 ERA) allowed three runs in seven innings. With two innings of scoreless relief, RHP Josh Judy (3-0, 2.91) earned the victory.

AA Akron Aeros

Baysox 7, Aeros 2: John Drennan homered for Akron, but the Aeros never really threatened in falling to Bowie (Md.) in Eastern League road game. Scott Barnes (5-9) allowed six runs and seven hits in 6.1 innings to take the loss for Akron. 

Advanced A Kinston Indians

Keys 6, Indians 4: RHP Austin Adams (4-1, 1.66) allowed two runs in 3 innings for host Kinston, N.C., in a loss to Frederick, Md., in Carolina League play. SS Juan Diaz (.272), singled and doubled for the K-Tribe.

A Lake County Captains

Dragons 3, Captains 1: SS Casey Frawley (.268) doubled twice, but Lake County lost at Dayton in Midwest League play.

A Mahoning Valley Scrappers

Scrappers 4, Spikes 1: RHP Casey Gaynor (5-2, 3.38) allowed three hits and two walks in 51/3 scoreless innings, and visiting Mahoning Valley downed State College, Pa., in New York-Penn League play. Gaynor struck out four. LHP James Reichenbach (3.52) did not allow a run in two innings of relief to earn his third save.

Independent Lake Erie Crushers

Crushers idle: Lake Erie did not play Monday and visits Washington, Pa., to take on the Wild Things Tuesday in Frontier League play.
