Sex shop makes new plea to help disabled clients

A PORT Talbot sex shop is making a second plea for a rear entrance — but this time to spare the blushes for its disabled customers.

Secret Desires, a licensed sex shop in Taibach, has submitted an application to use the existing fire exit as an access for customers.

The owner, Simon Sternschuss, had previously applied to Neath Port Talbot Council in June 2008 for the rear access use for shoppers.

But although councillors agreed to the use of the fire exit, they refused to permit its use for customers.

Mr Sternschuss said at the time: "I'm employing people living locally and councillors should be supporting local businesses."

But now Mr Sternschuss is seeking permission from the authority for a second time for rear access suggesting it is needed for disabled customers.

In a letter to the authority, Mr Sternschuss said he had received requests from disabled customers to have the rear of the premises converted into a disabled access as it would afford an easier entrance than from the front of the shop.

Taibach councillors John Rogers and Anthony Taylor opposed the Commercial Road shop coming to the area in February 2006.

Councillor Taylor told the Post: "I think to ensure public confidence and safety of the shop the main entrance is to be at the front only.

"All the other shops along that parade use their front entrances.

"I see no reason he can't do the same.

"It is up to the owner to explain why he needs it to be at the rear."

Police have advised that they have on objections.

Mr Sternschuss was to put his case to councillors this month but an illness forced him to miss the meeting.

The application will now be heard early next year.

This March, the shop had its licence renewal approved after a complaint-free year.
