Those boots were made for walking

WORKERS walked miles to get their offices as the wintry weather descended in the early hours yesterday.

A spokeswoman for Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board said staff had tried their best to get to hospitals.

However, outpatient appointments were cancelled as staff were redeployed to cover the wards.

Council workers also trekked to work and dozens of employees were working to make the streets of the city safe, by shovelling show and laying down grit.

A fleet of JCBs were also visiting communities such as Townhill and Clase to help keep people safe and moving.

Among those making special efforts on behalf of the public were Swansea lawyers Jennifer Finch and Les Richards.

Working for Peter Lynn and Partners, they battled to their Morriston office.

Senior partner Mr Lynn said: "They know people were counting on them to complete house purchases. It's such a big moment in anyone's life that Jennifer and Les didn't want them to suffer the delay of the weekend. It took Jennifer several hours across treacherous roads to get there but she did and, together with Les, she was able to make sure the deals went through as planned."
