"April hath put a spirit of youth in everything." ~William Shakespeare Me thinks 'old will's' having a laugh, as if you are anticipating a period of warm, dry and settled spring weather, then you may like to find another forecast or forecaster other than this, as I believe that it'll be generally cool and showery in nature to begin with. There'll be no pressure pattern in overall control; each will be making its presence felt at some stage through the period, often cool and showery through most parts. Thankfully the strength of increasing spring sunshine will be noticeable, if that is you can find a sheltered corner out of the chilly breeze, I'd stay there! *19/03/2011 - 25/03/2011* High pressure should still be the controlling feature across the UK through the early an middle period, so the expectation is that there'll be a good deal of settled weather about through most parts with some sunny breaks and variable cloud amounts drifting beneath the quite large anticyclone over or close to the country. Little alteration in the basic flow pattern is likely through the middle and latter stages of the forecast period with high pressure in control. However there is the possibility of some erosion in its influence across northwestern and northern Britain as the anticyclone slips away a little. Northwestern areas of the UK are expected to see increasing cloud and outbreaks of rain at times as a freshening southwesterly breeze feeds Atlantic air in to this corner of the British Isles; remaining areas should be largely dry and settled with just variable amounts of cloud. *26/03/2011 - 01/04/2011* High pressure looks as if it'll be in control over the southern half of the British Isles at least for the beginning of the period, although by the end of the week it'll be a good deal more unsettled everywhere. The bulk of England and Wales should remain largely dry and settled during the period through to mid-week; however developing low pressure to the northwest of the UK will bring an abrupt change to rather more unsettled conditions later. Northwestern areas will already be experiencing a more Atlantic influence to the weather over the weekend with outbreaks of rain and stronger winds pushing through from the west to southwest. Through the middle period there are indications of a rather more unsettled spell pushing through all areas of the UK, low pressure taking control. Stronger winds are indicated for areas and it'll be feeling cooler too beneath the cloud and rain. *02/04/2011 - 08/04/2011* There are quite strong indications here that low pressure will gain control of the pattern and will be kept close at hand for the hole of the period, it'll also become cooler as time goes on, feeling quite cold for the time of year perhaps by week end? Low pressure will move into the country and then stall to become slow moving to stationary, gradually filling through the period. Outbreaks of rain and quite strong winds will move through all areas, some of this rain could be heavy but should clear away to the east by mid-week. Low pressure will be over the UK for much of the period, it'll be generating some hefty showers during it continued presence, thunder and hail will be quite probable, as it gradually become colder showers may turn a tad wintry over higher ground, particularly in the north. Showers should begin to ease down as the low fills slowly and pressure gradually rises. *09/04/2011 - 15/04/2011* Low pressure looks as if it'll still have overall control of the pattern, it will however become weaker and complex, gradually filling, a very weak high pressure pattern may develop later but this is expected to be eroded by showers mid-week All areas will still be at risk of showers or longer spells of merged showers, however these not as widespread or as heavy as previously experienced Some sunnier spells can be expected although even this strong spring sunshine won't be able to mask the overall chilliness of the air across the UK. A weak area of high pressure may dampen down the showery activity for a time; however a band of further showery rain is likely to cross all areas from the west, followed by a stronger rise in pressure to the west later in the week. *16/04/2011 - 20/04/2011* A strong build in pressure is anticipated to be taking place to the west of Ireland, low pressure still possibly stagnated to the east or southeast of England. The west will be best, where it'll be mainly dry and fine, with strong sunshine. Showers, some of which will be heavy and thundery can be expected to be quite widespread across eastern and southeastern areas, feeling generally cool still despite the strong spring sunshine.
