Matt LaPorta homers again as Clippers roll: Minor league report

Aeros lose pitching duel, Carolina falls to Winston-Salem, Captains get strong outing from pitcher Will Roberts.

AAA Columbus Clippers

Clippers 6, Bats 4: First baseman Matt LaPorta homered for the second straight game, a three-run shot to cap a five-run second inning to lead host Columbus to an International League victory. Catcher Luke Carlin hit his first home run for the Clippers.

Corey Kluber got the victory, striking out 10 in five scoreless innings. Chris Ray earned his first save, giving up one run in the ninth inning.

AA Akron Aeros

Mets 2, Aeros 1: Binghamton left-hander Darin Gorski struck out seven and allowed one hit over six shutout innings to lead the host Mets past Akron in an Eastern League game.

Aeros catcher Roberto Perez hit a homer in the eighth inning. Steven Wright took the loss, tossing 5 innings, giving up one run and striking out five.

Advanced A Carolina Mudcats

Dash 7, Mudcats 2: Carolina starter Mike Rayl gave up six runs (five earned) in four innings as Winston-Salem routed the host Mudcats in a Carolina League game.

Third baseman Giovanny Urshela and first baseman Jesus Aguilar knocked in runs for Carolina.

A Lake County Captains

Captains 9, Tin Caps 1: Will Roberts pitched six strong innings, and Lakewood's Alex Lavisky knocked in two runs to lead Lake County to a Midwest League victory in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Captains shortstop Francisco Lindor (.308) had three hits and his third stolen base for Lake County, which also got two RBI apiece from third baseman Leonardo Castillo and outfielder Bryson Myles.
