Clippers win; Aeros, Captains lose: Minor League Report

Russ Canzler (.264) homered, doubled, singled and drove in two runs as Columbus won an International League game Sunday in Indianapolis.

1B Russ Canzler (.264) homered, doubled, singled and drove in two runs as Columbus won an International League game Sunday in Indianapolis.

LHP T.J. McFarland (7-6, 5.12 ERA) earned the victory after giving up three runs in 6 2/3 innings. RHP Dan Wheeler (2.56) earned his third save.

AA Akron Aeros

Thunder 3, Aeros 2

3B Adam Abraham (.259) homered, but host Akron lost an Eastern League contest against Trenton (N.J.). RHP Toru Murata threw five scoreless innings for the Aeros, giving up two hits and two walks. He struck out six. RHP Bryce Stowell (4.15) blew a save opportunity, and RHP Rob Bryson (5-5, 2.70) took the loss.

Advanced A Carolina Mudcats

Red Sox 9, Mudcats 5

SS Tony Wolters (.263) doubled twice and singled, and three other Carolina players had two hits each, but the host Mudcats lost to Salem (Va.) in Carolina League play. 2B Justin Toole (.236), DH Ronny Rodriguez (.267) and LF Delvi Cid (.284) each had two of Carolina’s 10 hits. Mudcats LHP J.D. Reichenbach (5-7, 5.40) allowed six runs, four hits and two walks in two innings of relief.

A Lake County Captains

Loons 4, Captains 2

2B Jose Ramirez (.339) had three hits, but Lake County lost to host Great Lakes (Mich.) in Midwest League play. Captains SS Francisco Lindor (.263) collected his 42nd RBI of the season.

A Mahoning Valley Scrappers

Doubledays 4, Scrappers 0

Mahoning Valley managed just three hits in a New York-Penn League loss to host Auburn (N.Y.). 3B Joseph Wendle went 1-for-4 and is batting .315. RHP Luis Morel (2-5, 4.85) gave up four runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Independent Lake Erie Crushers

Crushers 4, Beach Bums 3

Host Lake Erie’s top four batters — 2B J.C. Figueroa (.271), LF Daniel Bowman (.311), 1B Jason Taylor (.292) and 3B Andrew Davis (.284) — each had two hits in a Frontier League win against Traverse City (Mich.).
