AAA Columbus Clippers
Clippers 8, Mud Hens 0: Left-hander David Huff (8-2, 4.36) pitched seven scoreless innings, striking out five while giving up five hits and one walk, and was backed by a 17-hit attack as the Clippers won their fifth straight game. Every Clipper had at least one hit. SS Josh Rodriguez (.295), C Damaso Espino (.257) and 3B Argenis Reyes (.304) -- batting seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively -- each had three hits. Espino had two RBI, Rodriguez doubled twice and 1B Wes Hodges (.268) singled, doubled and drove in two runs as the first-place Clippers maintained at least a one-half game lead over the Louisville Bats in the International League West Division.
Notes: Jose Constanza has been named to the International League's postseason All-Star team. Also a mid-season all-star, Constanza was third in the IL in batting (.317), tied for first in triples (eight) and fourth in stolen bases (33, in 39 attempts) after Thursday's game. He is 15-of-41 (.366) with two doubles, two triples and five walks in his last 10 games. Constanza is hitting .339 (57-of-168) in 42 games since the All-Star break....2B Cord Phelps is batting .326, which would be second in the league, but his 233 at bats with Columbus after being promoted from Class AA Akron are not enough to qualify for league leadership. Phelps, who rested on Thursday, is 6-of-14 with three doubles and one triple in his last four games.......IF Drew Sutton (.273) is 10-of-32 (.313) with a doubles and six walks in his last nine games....RH reliever Zach Putnam (0-1, 3.63) has allowed one run (unearned) in his last eight games, striking out 13 while giving up five hits and three walks in 12 1/3 innings....OF Ezequiel Carrera (.281) is 12-of-35 (.343) with two doubles, two triples and 4-of-4 in stolen bases in his last eight games.
AA Akron Aeros
Thunder 3, Aeros 2: Akron's playoff chances took a sharp decline as Trenton took the lead in the eighth inning to win at Waterfront Park. The Aeros (70-68) now have an elimination number of one while the Thunder (81-57) is up by two games on New Hampshire.
Notes: Going into Thursday night's game, Jason Kipnis was batting .325 (13-of-40) with four doubles and one triple in his last 10 games. Kipnis, an Indians' second-round pick out of Arizona State in the 2009 draft -- and then converted from the outfield to second base -- was hitting .317 with 20 doubles, five triples, nine homers, 61 runs and 40 RBI in 293 at bats with the Aeros. The left-handed hitter began the season at Kinston, and (going into Thursday night's game) was hitting .310 in 496 at bats overall, with 32 doubles, eight triples, 15 homers, 94 runs, 71 RBI, 54 walks and eight stolen bases. With the Aeros, Kipnis was hitting .400 (26-of-65) with six doubles, two triples, two homers and 11 walks with runners in scoring position....3B Lonnie Chisenhall (.279) was batting .385 (25-of-65) (.379) with six doubles, three homers, 21 RBI and 15 runs in his last 18 games. Indians 5, Keys 3: Kinston, N.C., scored three runs in the top of the tenth inning and defeated Frederick, Md. The Keys rallied with one run in their half of the tenth. Key plays in the K-Tribe’s winning rally were a bases-loaded walk and a two-run single by Kyle Bellows.
Notes: Going into Thursday night's game, catcher Chun-Hsiu Chen (.316) was 7-of-14 with four doubles, one homer, five RBI and four walks in his last four games. Chen, a 21-year-old right-handed hitter from Taiwan, was batting a combined .314 in 373 at bats at Kinston (155 AB) and Lake County (218 AB), with 37 doubles, three triples, 12 homers, 68 RBI, 56 runs and 51 walks....RHP Joe Gardner (12-5, 2.69) led the Carolina League in wins and LHP T.J. McFarland (11-5, 3.13) was tied for second....RH reliever Matthew Langwell (4-2, five saves, 1.96) had not allowed a run in his last 15 appearances, striking out 20 in 18 2/3 innings....In 24 games since the All-Star break, RH reliever Cory Burns had a 1.14 ERA and 17 saves, with 35 strikeouts and five walks in 23 2/3 innings. A Lake County Captains
Loons 5, Captains 2: Great Lakes scored all its runs in the sixth inning and defeated Lake County in Midland, Mich. Vidal Nuno (6-8), pitched the first 5Ò innings for the Captains, and gave up all the Loons’ runs. He also gave up five hits and struck out five.
Notes: Going into Thursday night's game, RH reliever Preston Guilmet (4-1, 10 saves, 2.31) had struck out 16 in 6 2/3 innings over his last three games, getting all but four of 20 outs on strikeouts. In those 6 2/3 innings, he allowed one hit and one walk. A Mahoning Valley Scrappers
Crosscutters 9, Scrappers 5: Williamsport, Pa., scored eight runs in the bottom of the second and defeated Mahoning Valley in a New York-Penn League game. Jordan Cooper (5-5) started for the Scrappers and lasted only 1.2 innings. He was touched up for seven runs, all earned, on seven hits, and a walk.

Crushers 3, Wild Things 2: Lake Erie won its fifth game in a row, defeating Washington, Pa., in Avon.
