Kinston nips Potomac; Captains edge Dayton in 11: Minor league report

Gregory Folgia singled home Delvi Cid for the winning run in the 11th inning to give Lake County a home win over Dayton.

Indians 2, Nationals 1: Joseph Gardner (10-5, 2.86) allowed one run on two hits in five innings as host Kinston, N.C., beat the Potomac Nationals. Gardner walked four and struck out five.

The Indians did their scoring in the fourth inning, first on a triple by Jeremie Tice. Then Tice scored on a Chun-Hsiu Chen single. The Indians' 6 p.m. game Tuesday against the Nationals will be followed by a makeup of a June 29 game.

Captains 11, Dragons 10 (11): Gregory Folgia singled home Delvi Cid for the winning run in the 11th inning to give the host Lake County Captains a win over Dayton. Lake County jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning when Dayton pitcher Jacob Johnson loaded the bases by hitting Chris Kersten with a pitch. Folgia scored on a wild pitch, then Jason Smit doubled in Kersten and Adam Abraham. Francisco Jimenez (7-1, 3.97) got the win.

Notes: Aaron Laffey, on a rehab assignment from the Indians, recorded three strikeouts and allowed one hit in one inning pitched.

Lake Erie, Akron, Mahoning Valley and Columbus were idle on Monday.
