Care home addition at Friern site

Jewish Care is planning a third care home at its Asher Loftus Way site in Friern Barnet, plus additional communal facilities.

The charity this week announced its intention to build a 48-bed home for the elderly with nursing and dementia care needs, joining the existing Lady Sarah Cohen House and Rosetrees.

Jewish Care chairman Stephen Zimmerman said communal facilities "could include a nursery, wellbeing centre, or a keep-fit facility for older people". He hoped to see "opportunities for as much cross-generational interaction as possible. Our strategy is to try and maximise the use of resources."

Barnet planners are aware that an application will be forthcoming on completion of the public consultation process. Local community members have been invited to view the building plans next Thursday.

If the planning and fundraising go as envisioned, the home will open at the end of 2013. The budget for the project has yet to be finalised.
