Chai meets rising needs

Chai Cancer Care is expanding its Manchester operation with two new therapists and a services manager.

The charity, offering counselling and a range of complementary therapies including acupuncture, aromatherapy and reflexology, has seen a huge growth in the numbers using its services. It now helps 140 cancer patients and family members from sites in north and south Manchester, as well as through home visits.

Money for the new posts follows a first northern fundraising dinner which raised 150,000. Chai will also introduce a support group for women with breast cancer and is planning a bereavement group.

Chief executive Elaine Kerr said Manchester services were expected to grow "in the range of therapies, education and advice available, and in capacity. Our priority is to increase the home support service."
