Singers put on special concert

On Wednesday, there will be a special concert in Glastonbury's United Reformed Church, featuring three singers, performing in the round; amplified only by the fantastic acoustics of the church itself.

Recently returned to Glastonbury after some years abroad, Lauren Wilce has performed in many exotic corners of the world, ranging from India and Peru to Glastonbury Festival, combining an evocative smoky voice with her deft handling of tenor and baritone ukuleles.

GW Seeger (known simply as Willow) is a fine singer, songwriter, musician and poet, to name but a few of the strings to his bow.

He has performed on stages and at ceremonies throughout the world.

Jez Hellard, a powerful singer, fine guitarist and widely celebrated harmonica player, has performed more than 450 shows in the past five years; from Vancouver to Istanbul and Macedonia to East Asia.

With a repertoire ranging from traditional British and Irish ballads, jigs and reels, to bluegrass, Balkan, Latin and reggae, he never fails to produce something for all tastes.

Having performed several times with his full band at Glastonbury Assembly Rooms over the past few years, he's looking forward to the intimate nature of this concert.

The three will perform two sets of music in the style of trans-Atlantic folk festivals where all the performers remain on stage throughout, taking turns to lead songs and providing accompaniment where appropriate.

The United Reformed Church is a beautiful setting in which to experience such intimate performances, where young and old can share in finely performed music without the need for noisy sound systems and clinking glasses.

This concert continues the series of Wednesday night performances enabled by the tireless efforts of Reverend Evelyn Rideout, who is keen to see the church used to benefit the community more than just once a week, and will be providing light refreshments on the night.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and entry is 3.
