Columbus Clippers, Akron Aeros, Kinston Indians all lose: Minor League Report

It's a bad day for the Cleveland Indians' farm teams.

AAA Columbus Clippers

Mud Hens 5, Clippers 4 Columbus took a two-run lead with three runs in the top of the seventh, but Toledo scored three runs off Paolo Espino (0-1, 27.00 ERA) in the bottom of the inning to win the Class AAA International League game in Toledo. Clippers starter Alex White threw six innings, giving up two unearned runs and striking out seven.

AA Akron Aeros

Phillies 9, Aeros 5 Bryan Price allowed five runs over the sixth and seventh innings as Akron lost a Class AA Eastern League game in Reading, Pa. Price suffered his first loss of the season, giving up five earned runs on six hits, striking out two and walking none in two innings.

Notes: Left fielder Tim Fedroff hit a two-run homer for Akron in the third inning.

Advanced A Kinston Indians

Dash 5, Indians 3 Winston-Salem scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning off Jose Flores (0-1, 20.25) to hand visiting Kinston a Class A Carolina League loss in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Notes: Kinston went four days without hitting a home run to start the season. Infielder Adam Abraham broke the streak with a towering blast against Wilmington on Monday. He has since hit a home run in each of the past three games. . . . Through the first six games, Kinston's starting pitchers are 0-3. Starters have given up 21 hits and eight earned runs in 30 innings and have struck out 42 with a 2.35 ERA. The bullpen has allowed more hits and earned runs in seven fewer innings and has an ERA of 5.40.

A Lake County Captains

Hot Rods 11, Captains 7 Bowling Green first baseman Phillip Wunderlich hit a grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning as Lake County lost a Class A Midwest League game in Bowling Green, Ky. Nathan Striz (0-1, 13.50) was the losing pitcher for the Captains.
