Leeds Maccabi crush Torpedo

Leeds Sunday Alliance Premier Division

Leeds Maccabi 9
Torpedo Woodhall 1

Leeds Maccabi bounced back from last week’s disappointment by thrashing Torpedo Woodhall in the Sunday Alliance Premier Division.

Dan Ross, playing as an emergency centre forward, scored five as Ian Selwyn’s men ran riot on their way to racking up nine goals in 90 minutes.

Richard Black grabbed a brace with Max Clynes and Dave Woolman also getting on the scoresheet.

And boss Selwyn was delighted with his side’s response following the 3-2 defeat by Gascoigne FC just seven days earlier.

“It was a real thrashing and everything just went right for us really,” he said.

“Against Gascoigne, everything which could of have gone wrong, went wrong.

“But we had three players back and that made a big difference. It was a good performance.”

Selwyn also revealed how he decided to move Ross from central defence after a lack of personnel left him with little option.

He added: “Dan played up front against Gascoigne and did very well so I thought I’d leave him there.

“He was excellent. I thought he might do well because we were struggling for forwards.

“He did great and hopefully we can carry on next weekend.”
