The Bishop of Manchester, senior policemen and civic dignitaries were among 600 people who marked Yom HaShoah in Manchester on Monday night.
Holocaust survivors were also at the ceremony at King David High School in Crumpsall which featured violinist Leon Keuffer, accompanied by pianist Sandra Friedman. Readings from survivor Henry Ferster and an address by Cheadle Yeshurun Synagogue's Rabbi Chaim Kanterovitz emphasised the legacy of the Holocaust.
Lucille Cohen, president of event organiser Manchester Jewish Representative Council, said the commemoration was "incredibly moving.
"It was especially good to have the Bishop of Manchester attending, as he is always extremely supportive of the community. And we were delighted to use the King David School's new facilities."
