UK Forecast: No White Christmas - Mild, gales in north, Dec 24 - 16:05

Christmas Day A windy, mild Christmas to come across Britain. Generally a dry one as well across much of England and Wales though some patchy drizzle may affect some western areas. Strong gales will affect Scotland with gusts of 80-90mph across the north in the afternoon. Rain is expected today across Scotland and Northern Ireland, perhaps reaching northern England in the afternoon. Expect highs of 10 to 12C.

Christmas Night It stays windy into the evening and night with those severe gales across Scotland this evening and into the night. Generally it looks like a mild, cloudy night for most of Britain with some rain expected in the north and the west. Expect lows of 9 to 10C.

Boxing Day A mild, cloudy and windy day across the country for Boxing Day. Those winds very strong in the north with severe gales again across Scotland There will be some sporadic outbreaks of patchy, light rain and drizzle from Wales up into northern England and Northern Ireland with a bit more persistent rain into Scotland though it tends to dry up across Wales and northern England in the afternoon. To the south it remains dry with cloud tending to break allowing some sunshine through at times, especially away from the west. It stays windy into the evening with a band of rain across southern Scotland and Northern Ireland. A dry evening across much of England and Wales as it turns colder across northern Scotland. Tonight that rain edges down into northern England and turns light. To the south it stays dry with some clear spells. Dry as well across Scotland. The strong gales in the north this evening will moderate in the night. Expect highs of 10 to 12C.

Tuesday For Scotland and Northern Ireland expect a cloudy, damp day with outbreaks of mainly light rain. For England and Wales expect a dry day with a fair amount of cloud. This should thin allowing some sunshine through during the afternoon, especially across eastern and southern parts of the country. This evening the winds increase to bring severe gales back to northern parts of Scotland tonight. Rain spreads into Wales and western parts of England into the evening and the night with eastern parts of England dry. Some rain may move back into northern Scotland with some snow on the hills. Highs today of 8 to 10C.
