South Manchester's only Jewish youth club opened its doors on Sunday in new premises.
Organisers of the Hub, who have spent �15,000 refurbishing a 4,000 sq ft former office block in Hale Barns, also announced plans to utilise the facility as a community centre. Mother-and-baby groups and fitness sessions are some of the activities planned for next year. The club moved after its previous landlord put its former Altrincham premises up for sale.
On Sunday, around 80 parents and children enjoyed a Chanucah opening party, which saw professional actors teach theatrical stage-fighting techniques to youngsters to tell the story of the Maccabees' fight. The club's newly installed Messy Zone for arts and crafts; its dance, drama and sports room; and chill-out lounge were also used for the first time.
In January, workers from the Hub will escort children from school buses to after-school clubs at the venue designed to assist working parents with childcare.
Management committee member Kate Moryoussef said: "We want to use the Hub as a community centre, and not only as a youth club. We want the community to get behind what we are doing."
