Manchester-born Yossi Schwarz is to take up the post of chazan at Edgware Synagogue.
Mr Schwarz studied for two years at yeshiva in Israel and now lives in Edgware with his wife Miri and three children. He has been studying voice production with masters of the art for close to 10 years.
Mr Schwarz, 33, won the Julian Klein Cantorial Scholarship competition in 2009 gaining a year's scholarship at the Tel-Aviv Cantorial Institute. He then studied for a further year under the tutelage of the cantor Naphtali Herstik.
Mr Schwarz has also served as chazan sheni for the Yomim Noraim at Hampstead Garden Suburb Synagogue.
Mrs Schwarz grew up in Gateshead and studied at the Gateshead Seminary. The couple took part in a two-year outreach course while in Israel.
Mr Schwarz said the appointment had "brought to fruition my lifelong dream of using my voice in conjunction with tephilla to inspire others. We have been pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome from the community."
Warden Stephen Goldman said: "The community love his voice and the enthusiasm he puts into his prayer and the way he incorporates chazanut and a wide variety of Jewish nostalgic music into the service."
Mr Schwarz replaces cantor Jonny Turgel who moved to Stanmore and Canons Park Synagogue.
