Man questioned over antisemitic egg attack

A man has been questioned by police on suspicion of throwing eggs at Jews in "drive-by" attacks.

The 19-year-old was interviewed on Tuesday following two suspected incidents in Hendon and Golders Green, north west London, on the Friday evenings of December 9 and 16.

In the first incident, four Jewish girls in their early 20s had eggs thrown at them as they walked along Golders Green Road. A similar attack took place last Friday, when two Jews ? a 29-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman ? were allegedly egged and subjected to racial taunts.

The man who was questioned was not arrested but is expected to return to Colindale police station next month to assist officers with their enquiries.

The Community Security Trust is also working with police to encourage members of the community to report egg-throwing incidents. It is thought there may have been up to a dozen attacks in the past month.

Detective Constable Damon Cotter said: "We are committed to stamping out this sort of crime. I would appeal to anyone who has witnessed this vile behaviour, or who has been a victim and not yet reported it, to contact your local police.

"I understand the problems of reporting crime on Shabbat, but I would ask any victims or witnesses to contact us as soon as they can."
