European Summary: Lots of sunshine - Hot in south, May 20 - 06:03

Lots of sunshine across much of Europe, dry for many Friday Some showers affecting the far southeast of Spain on Thursday, but for most of Spain and Portugal the day is going to be fine and sunny. Fine weather extends across the central Mediterranean and into Italy, bringing good spells of sunshine throughout the day. Greece and Turkey stay mainly fine, hot and sunny, although there is a risk of a thunderstorm forming along the northern Turkish Mountains. For central parts of Europe the winds are going to be light, and given warm temperatures and lots of sunshine it really will be a fine spring day. France, Germany, the Low Countries, Switzerland, Poland and western Russia all enjoying this fine weather. For northern Europe conditions are slightly more unsettled with showers into Ireland and the northern UK. There will be lots of fine weather through Scandinavia with good sunny spells to the lee of the hills, although some showers may affect western coasts of Norway.

Saturday High pressure brings a fine day throughout Iberia with more sunshine and very warm conditions here. The sunshine and dry weather extends throughout central Europe bringing much sunshine to France, Germany and Poland. Italy and Turkey will have a fine day, as will Crete and Cyprus. The sunshine will be spreading to Bulgaria and Romania, where it will be remaining dry and sunny. Northern Europe is going to be under the influence of high pressure too. This is going to be bringing lots of fine weather to the Baltic States and Finland. It should stay fine across southern Sweden and Denmark, although cloud and some showers will affect the rest of Sweden and Norway.
