Lake County pitchers twirl second-straight one-hitter: Minor-league report

McBride homers in Akron victory, House sharp as Kinston rolls.

A Lake County Captains

Captains 4, Hot Rods 0: Lake County pitchers combined for their second straight one-hitter in a Midwest League win over visiting Bowling Green (Ky.).

Mike Rayl (3-0, 2.08) started from the Captains and pitched seven innings. The left-hander allowed a bloop single in the sixth inning, walked none and struck out 11. Righty Jordan Cooper (6.75) got the final six outs.

Lake County LF Tyler Cannon (.380) went 2-for-3 with two doubles and C Alex Lavisky (.220), a St. Ed grad, had two hits and an RBI.

AA Akron Aeros

Aeros 6, Curve 3: Akron 1B Matt McBride (.222) had two hits, including his second homer of the season, and two RBI, and lefty Nick Hagadone (2-0, 0.00) threw 21/3 innings of scoreless relief as the Aeros won the Eastern League game in Altoona, Pa.

Hagadone, who gave up three hits and struck out one, relieved left-hander T.J. McFarland (3.21) with two outs in the fifth inning and the score tied, 3-3. McFarland allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks while striking out four.

Righty Cory Burns (3.00) struck out the side in the ninth for his eighth save.

Akron 3B Kyle Bellows (.178) doubled and scored a run.

Advanced A Kinston Indians

Indians 5, Red Sox 1: Kinston southpaw T.J. House (1-3, 4.57) threw six strong innings to help the K-Tribe win the Carolina League game in Salem, Va.

House pitched innings three through eight in the completion of Tuesday's game, which was suspended because of heavy rain in the bottom of the first.

House allowed one unearned run Wednesday, on one hit and four walks. He fanned four.

Indians CF Abner Abreu (.271) went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI and 2B Daniel DeGeorge (.250) was 2-for-4 with a triple and one RBI.

AAA Columbus Clippers

Clippers off: The Clippers, winners of 13 straight games, host the Lehigh Valley IronPigs Thursday at Huntington Park at 6:35 p.m. Right-hander Corey Kluber (0-2, 6.50) is on the hill for Columbus.

Notes: Infielder Jason Donald, slated to be the Tribe's Opening Day third baseman until he broke a finger in spring training, is hitting .412 (7-for-17) since being activated off the disabled list. Donald has one homer and five RBI. ... Outfielder Jerad Head is hitting .366 (26-for-71) with three homers, three doubles and 11 RBI.
