Trowels will be drawn at dawn and may the best town and village win.
So said chairman Alan Gloak at the launch of Mendip In Bloom 2011 on Monday.
Making the district more attractive for residents and visitors is the competition's purpose, run by volunteers.
Last year's best town was Glastonbury, with Wells second and Street third.
Mr Gloak said it was three years since Mendip District Council withdrew financial support but Mendip In Bloom was "just solvent and looking forward to a new season.
"South West In Bloom are looking at communities as a class this year and that means Mendip as a whole. We will be entering.
"Also this year we shall see our new class called Front of House for pots and containers which are attached to or standing hard against the front of the house.
"May I thank our sponsors Shepton Cider Mill, Mid Somerset News & Media, Glastonbury Festival, and Dyne Drewett Solicitors."
The launch of Mendip In Bloom took place at the Cider House in Shepton Mallet and the awards will be presented at Glastonbury Town Hall on Friday, September 9.
