Celebs turn out to honour unsung everyday heroes

SWANSEA personalities and celebrities have backed the Evening Post's Pride Awards following last year's successful event.

The ceremony at the Brangwyn Hall in April saw more than half a dozen individuals publicly recognised for their bravery, determination and hard work.

And the good news is we are looking to uncover more of the area's unsung heroes at the second Pride Awards on Friday, March 11.

Last year's celebrity guests included Swans captain Garry Monk and Lee Trundle, actress Ruth Madoc, and Gavin and Stacey's Margaret John to name a few.

Garry, who was on the judging panel along with entertainer Mal Pope and former Lord Mayor Alan Lloyd, said: "We moan about day to day life but then we hear stories about people who are truly inspirational and it makes it all worthwhile."

Mr Pope said everybody who is nominated is a winner.

"The Pride Awards are extremely special and it is a great idea — the Evening Post is an institution in Swansea and I think it is important that the people of the city are honoured in this way. I don't think it's a case of there being one winner, everyone is a winner."

Nominations have been coming in thick and fast — but we still want more!

So make sure your local hero does not miss out and get your entries in by 5pm on Monday.

Individuals who did not win last year are still eligible to be nominated as long as they live or work within the Post's circulation area — Swansea, Carmarthenshire, Neath Port Talbot and South Powys.

Categories are: Teacher or mentor of the year; Grass Roots Sports coach of the year; Community Champion; Charity Champion; Good Neighbour/ Volunteer of the Year; Bravery; Carer of the Year; Ambassador; Child of Courage (18 and under) and Lifetime Achievement Award.

Nominations should include full contact details for yourself and the nominee, the category in which they are nominated, where they are based and up to 300 words on why they should win.

Send nominations to Evening Post Pride Awards, South Wales Evening Post, Adelaide Street, Swansea SA1 1QT. Email prideawards@swwmedia.co.uk or call 01792 514604 for queries.
