Week ahead: A mixed start - Warmer later, Aug 28 - 09:14

A mixed start to the week ahead with some heavy showers affecting much of the country. High pressure is going to be building to the south of the country, this edging northwards and then dominating the weather at the end of the forecast period. It may well become very warm later too. For the weather for the next few days click here Friday 31/8/12 High pressure will be to the southwest of England on Friday. A brisk westerly flow developing over Scotland as a warm front moves east. The front will be bringing lots of cloud and some outbreaks of rain to Scotland, most of them in the north and west. Drizzle and rain for northern and western Ireland too, although the south and east should be drier and brighter. For England and Wales it is going to be a brighter morning with good spells of sunshine. High cloud increasing in the north of England and Wales making the sunshine hazy, but then this thickening in the afternoon with a few spots of rain for northwest England and northern Wales by evening. Highs at 14 to 19C. Saturday 1/9/12 High pressure is south of the country on Saturday with low pressure north of Scotland. A brisk west flow through all areas with a cold front approaching western Scotland and Ireland later. This brings heavy periods of rain to these areas. Elsewhere through the UK and Ireland it should be a dry day with cloud breaking and sunny spells developing. The best of the sunshine in eastern and southern areas. Highs at a much warmer 17 to 23C.

Sunday 2/9/12 A front sinks south through the UK and Ireland on Sunday and is expected to be across southern Ireland, Wales and southern England in the afternoon. A weak ridge of high pressure remains to the south although there will be a fair amount of cloud here and the chance of some patchy rain. Further north it should be brighter with sunny spells, although a few showers in the north and west of Scotland. Highs at a warm 24C in England and Wales, 16C in northern Scotland. Monday 3/9/12 Fronts crossing Ireland and Scotland on Monday bringing lots of moisture with them. This means a cloudy and damp day in these areas, and breezy too. Plenty of low cloud on western coasts and hills. It may be fairly cloudy over the west and north of Wales, but for eastern Wales and England a ridge of high pressure should bring fair weather with sunny spells. Highs around 25C in southern England, 17C in western Scotland. Tuesday 4/9/12 High pressure building into the south of England through Tuesday. There will be good spells of sunshine here. Further north fronts will be bringing cloud through northern England, Scotland and the north of Ireland with periods of rain. It could become very warm in southern England at 28C, but nearer 19C in northern Scotland. Friday 5/9/12 High pressure remains through Friday. This is going to be bringing a fair day with good spells of sunshine for most. There could be some cloud and spots of rain over northern and western coasts of Scotland. Highs at 17 to 27C.
