Indians (not those Indians) beat Clippers: Minor League Report

Akron splits doubleheader in Altoona; Captains defeat Loons.

AAA Columbus Clippers

Indians 8, Clippers 5

Columbus starter Matt Packer (0-4) gave up seven runs, all earned, and nine hits in four innings, as the Clippers lost an International League game in Indianapolis. Reliever Bryan Price then surrendered four hits and a run in 1 2/3 innings.

AA Akron Aeros

Aeros 4-1, Curve 1-7

Akron split an Eastern League doubleheader in Altoona, Pa., and lowered its magic number for clinching the Western Division to four with seven games to play. In the nightcap, the Curve jumped on Akron starter Mike Rayl (0-1) with two runs in the first inning, and four more in the second inning. In the opener, Danny Salazar (4-0) limited Altoona to one run and three hits in six innings, and Preston Guilmet pitched a scoreless seventh to notch his 23rd save.

Advanced A Carolina Mudcats

Mudcats were idle.

A Lake County Captains

Captains 4, Loons 3

Jose Ramirez slammed a two-run double in the top of the ninth inning, sending Lake County to a victory over Great Lakes in Midland, Mich. Both the base runners had walked.

A Mahoning Valley Scrappers

Mahoning Valley’s New York-Penn League game against Batavia, N.Y., in Niles, will be made up as part of a twilight doubleheader, starting tonight at 6:05 p.m.
