Columbus Clippers get swept in doubleheader: Minor League Report

The Columbus Clippers lose the first game of a double-header at Louisville, Ky.

Bats 4-5 Clippers 2-4 Columbus reliever Josh Judy (1-1) served up a home run to Devin Mesoraco in the bottom of the eighth inning, and the Louisville Bats completed a doubleheader sweep of the Clippers. Judy had relieved Jensen Lewis. International League doubleheaders consist of seven-inning games, and the score was tied at 4-4 after seven innings.

In the opener, Clippers pitcher Corey Kluber (0-1) gave up three runs (two earned) in five innings. Jordan Brown and Luis Valbuena socked solo homers for Columbus.

Curve 2, Aeros 0 Left-handed pitcher Kelvin De La Cruz gave up two unearned runs in the top of the third inning as Akron lost an Eastern League game to Altoona, Pa., at Canal Park. De La Cruz pitched five innings, struck out five and walked three.

Notes: Grady Sizemore played for the second straight day in his rehab assignment. He went 0-3 with a walk and a strikeout. Sizemore is 5-14 with the Aeros. Right-handed pitcher Joe Smith, also on a rehab assignment from the Indians, pitched a scoreless top of the sixth inning, striking out two.

Advanced A Kinston Indians

Blue Rocks 7, Indians 6 A throwing error by shortstop Casey Frawley led to an unearned run in the top of the ninth inning, and Wilmington, N.C., won a Carolina League game at Kinston. Adam Abraham and Bo Greenwell both slugged solo homers for Kinston.

A Lake County Captains

Dragons 2, Captains 1 On a cold and windy night at Classic Park in Eastlake, the Dayton Dragons scored single runs in the first and eighth innings to defeat Lake County in a Midwest League game. Jason Smit of Lake County doubled home a run in the ninth inning. Mike Goodnight (1-1), was the losing pitcher. He went five innings, allowing a run on two hits, walking two and striking out five.
