Phillips, Valbuena homer as Clippers rally past Indianapolis: Minor-league report

Columbus used a five-run fourth inning to vault past visiting Indianapolis. Kinston holds off Myrtle Beach.

AAA Columbus Clippers

Clippers 6, Indians 4: Columbus used a five-run fourth inning to vault past visiting Indianapolis, and the bullpen threw five innings in relief of Corey Kluber for the International League victory.

After falling behind, 2-0, the Clippers got on the board with a Travis Buck home run in the bottom of the second to make it a 2-1 ballgame. In the fifth, Columbus scored five runs on five hits, including a two-run triple by Jordan Brown and back-to-back home runs by Paul Phillips and Luis Valbuena. Jensen Lewis earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief, and Josh Judy pitched a perfect ninth inning for his first save of the season.

Notes: The Clippers and Indians will play a doubleheader Monday, beginning at 5:05 p.m.

AA Akron Aeros

Idle Sunday

Notes: Akron concludes its homestand with three games against Bowie. The first game is 7:05 p.m. Monday with right-hander Austin Adams (1-1, 2.30 ERA) taking the mound for the Aeros.

Advanced A Kinston Indians

Indians 3, Pelicans 2: Center fielder Tyler Holt had three hits, including a home run and double, and host Kinston held on for a Carolina League victory over Myrtle Beach, S.C. Kinston starter Brett Brach (1-1) pitched five innings, striking out five and yielding one run. Preston Guilmet pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save.

Notes: Cleveland Indians' first-round draft pick Drew Pomeranz will get the start for the K-Tribe Monday against the Salem Red Sox.

Notes: Lake County heads to Fort Wayne, Ind., for a three-game set at Parkview Field, first game is at 7:05 Monday night. The Captains will start RHP Kyle Blair (1-0).
