pals honour tragic father

A MINUTE'S silence has been held in memory of a popular and much-missed football coach who died while on a stag do in Barcelona.

Family man and passionate Liverpool fan, Stephen Storey, ran Neath Football Club side Longford FC in days gone by and helped out when it started up again a couple of years ago.

Club secretary Richard Michael organised the minute's silence before the second team kicked off against Bryn Rovers FC last Saturday, the day after Mr Storey's death.

Mr Michael said the club was still in shock.

"Our hearts go out to his family," he said.

Circumstances surrounding Mr Storey's death remain unclear.

Yesterday, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office repeated its earlier statement that Neath man David Keith Brennan, 49, had been arrested and subsequently released by Spanish police following Mr Storey's death.

There have been reports that a post mortem examination had shown that Mr Storey, of Heol Esgyn, Neath, had died either from natural causes or because of a biological reason.

Mr Storey had two children with his partner, who is Mr Brennan's sister.

The 47-year-old, originally from Liverpool, is also believed to have had two grown-up children from his first marriage.

His death has prompted many tributes.

A collection at the Smith's Arms pub, on Main Road, Neath Abbey, where he would pop in for a drink, has so far raised 115. The money will either go on flowers or to his children.

Good

Another minute's silence may take place this Saturday when another local team Mr Storey coached — The Miners FC — takes the field against Borough FC.

"I have spoken to a few of the senior members of the squad and they think it is a good idea," said Miners FC secretary Kevin O'Connor.

He has described Mr Storey, of Heol Esgyn, as a "damned good coach".

Mr Storey, who was nicknamed Scouse or Scouser, worked at Viscose Closures, in Swansea Enterprise Park, where colleagues have spoken of their shock. His family are not speaking about the tragedy at this stage.
