Zach McAllister sharp as Columbus nips Charlotte: Minor League Report

Weglarz's walk-off blast lifts Akron, Mudcats shut out by Myrtle Beach, early deficit too much for Captains.

AAA Columbus Clippers

Clippers 4, Knights 3: RHP Zach McAllister (4-2, 2.98 ERA) struck out seven in seven innings as host Columbus edged Charlotte (N.C.) in International League play Saturday. LF Tim Fedroff (.455), 3B Andy LaRoche (.242) and SS Gregorio Petit (.209) homered for the Clippers. McAllister allowed three runs, seven hits and one walk. 2B Cord Phelps (.264) doubled twice and drove in a run. RHP Chris Ray (2.16) earned his 10th save.

AA Akron Aeros

Aeros 2, Curve 1 (10 inn.): LF Nick Weglarz (.233) hit a walk-off homer in the 10th inning for Akron against Altoona (Pa.) in Eastern League play. For Weglarz, who also walked twice, it was his sixth homer of the season. Aeros LHP T.J. House (2.53) gave up one run in eight innings. RHP Loek van Mil (1-1, 1.62) earned the victory with two innings of scoreless relief.

Advanced A Carolina Mudcats

Pelicans 3, Mudcats 0: Myrtle Beach RHP Nicholas Tepesch (6-3, 2.63) three-hit host Carolina in Carolina League play. CF Tyler Holt (.279), LF Anthony Gallas (.224) and DH Justin Toole (.245) got the Mudcats' hits. Carolina RHP Jordan Cooper (1-4, 4.75) gave up three runs in four innings.

A Lake County Captains

Lugnuts 6, Captains 5: LHP Elvis Araujo (2-5, 3.88) could not get out of the first inning, allowing six runs as Lake County lost a Midwest League contest in Lansing, Mich. Araujo gave up three hits and three walks in of an inning. C Alex Lavisky (.250) had two hits and two RBI. RHP Mason Radeke (41/3 innings, 3.16), RHP Manuel Carmona (two innings, 5.14) and RHP Rob Nixon (one inning, 3.64) combined for 71/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Independent League Lake Erie Crushers

Grizzlies 7, Crushers 0: A pair of three-run homers and five strong innings by Patrick Arnold propelled Gateway to the victory Saturday at All-Pro Stadium in Avon.

Vladimir Frias and John Shelby had the homers for Gateway.
