Columbus split a doubleheader against Scranton-Wilkes Barre; Lake County Captains rally for 4-3 win over Hot Rods.
AAA Columbus Clippers
Clippers 1-3, Yankees 0-4
Columbus split a doubleheader against Scranton-Wilkes Barre in International League play in Moosic, Pa.
In the first game, Clippers starter David Huff (1-1) pitched the entire seven-inning contest, holding the Yankees scoreless on four hits, with five strikeouts and one walk.
Andy LaRoche doubled in Beau Mills in the fifth inning for the game’s only run.
In the nightcap, Scranton-Wilkes Barre struck for four runs in the first three innings against starter Kevin Slowey and held on after Columbus scored two in the first.
Slowey (2-3) gave up four runs on eight hits in five innings and took the loss. Jose Lopez and Andy LaRoche each had three hits.
AA Akron Aeros
Aeros 1-4, SeaWolves 0-1
Akron swept a doubleheader in Eastern League action at Canal Park.
In Game 1, T.J. House was stellar in picking up the win, going six innings with two hits and two walks allowed and striking out seven. Adam Abraham scored the winning run in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Roberto Perez.
In Game 2, the Aeros struck for four runs in the first inning and cruised. Jared Goedert hit a two-run double, and Davis Stoneburner had a two-run triple.
Advanced A Carolina Mudcats
Mudcats 6, Pelicans 0
Carolina romped in Carolina League action in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Every Mudcat batter but one got a hit, and DH Jeremie Tice had two hits, two RBI and scored two runs.
Carolina starter Francisco Jimenez (3-1) earned the win, going six innings, giving up three hits and striking out six.
A Lake County Captains
Captains 4, Hot Rods 3
Lake County rallied with three runs in the top of the eighth inning to grab a victory in Bowling Green, Ky. Doubles by Jordan Smith, Robel Garcia and Jared Sabourin aided the cause, as did a single by Francisco Lindor.
