Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga cheer for Aly Raisman after gold medal win

For teenage gymnast Aly Raisman and her US teammates, winning gold made for a day they would never forget – and the excitement didn't end there.

After the quartet won the medal on Tuesday evening, they found themselves being congratulated by some well-known figures in the entertainment world.

Jewish athlete Aly, who competed alongside teammates McKayla Maroney, Gabrielle Douglas, Jordyn Wieber and Kyla Ross, was the last on the floor and led her team to an easy victory. They beat the Russian team by five marks in the artistic gymnastics final at London 2012.

After yesterday's win, Jordyn tweeted on behalf of her team: "Now that we are Olympic champions…can we please meet Justin Bieber."

They were rewarded with a congratulatory message from the Canadian pop star, who at 18 is just a few months older than Aly.

The gymnasts also received a message from Lady Gaga, who wrote on her Twitter page: "Woohoo! Gold for the ladies…So much talent and beauty."

She added: "Those girls are tearing the floor up for the USA."

Aly, who said that she was still in shock after the win, will go for the top spot again on Thursday in the individual all-round artistic gymnastic final.
