A RISING band, which boasts two Burnham members, has enjoyed "a whirlwind year" playing at Glastonbury Festival, winning several accolades and being named stars by the BBC.
Out Like A Lion, Richard Gully (bass) and Matthew Aldus (vocals and guitar) both from Burnham, and James Scott (guitar) and Max Blunos (drums), both of Bath, only formed in October 2009.
In just over a year, the alternative band, whose name is based on the saying 'in like a lion, out like a lamb', has enjoyed phenomenal success after submitting a CD to BBC Radio Bristol.
Matthew, who attended King Alfred School in Highbridge with Richard, said: "We formed from bands which fell apart and decided this was the way to move forward.
"We wrote and recorded a track and sent it to BBC Introducing – then quickly got asked to play with Florence And The Machine and The Ting Tings among others at the BBC Xmas Party, then Glasto."
This month, the band won Radio 1's Best Of BBC Introducing with Chris Moyles, with their song Little Bit Of Love, after plays and votes over a week.
The win means their music now features on Radio 1's playlist, guaranteeing them prime airtime.
Matthew said: "The most recent achievement, the Chris Moyles thing tops off a whirlwind, really surreal time, and we are so thankful."
When asked to describe their music Matthew, 23, Richard, 24, James, 22, and Max, 19, declined to pigeon-hole themselves and said: "It's hard to pinpoint what our music can be called – it's always moving and evolving.
"Although we've found our feet, we still feel we can improve – so we say our music is 'better than it used to be'."
On their success Matthew added: "It's great to be where we are – but I won't consider us successful until I can give up my day job."
