Week ahead: Settling down? - Best in east, Feb 04 - 15:54

A changeable start then becoming more settled Despite a changeable start to this Week Ahead forecast, there are indications that the weather will attempt to become more settled, at least in the east, next week. This will be bought about by high pressure to the east, slowly nudging westwards, although more western areas are always at risk from rain. For the weather for the next few days click here Monday 7/2/11 Low pressure brings heavy rain overnight through Ireland and into southern Scotland. On Monday an area of strong winds and heavy rain affecting northwest England and Wales, this area sweeping eastwards, although the heaviest of the rain tending to fade away. Winds will be reaching gale force over England and Wales. Drier and brighter weather follows through Ireland and Scotland in the afternoon, with some showers on western coasts. Highs will be at 6 to 11C.

Tuesday 8/2/11 High pressure builds to the east of the country through Tuesday, with low pressure staying to the west. This is going to be bringing cloud and rain for western Ireland in a brisk southeast wind. For the British Isles the day will be dry with some good spells of sunshine throughout. There may be a few showers in northeast Scotland but these should fade away in the afternoon. Elsewhere it will be dry. Highs of 4C in northeast Scotland, 11C in southwest England.

Wednesday 9/2/11 Increasingly windy across Ireland and western parts of the country today. There will be cloud and rain in Ireland, some of it heavy, and this rain potentially reaching western coasts of England, Wales and Scotland. Further east it should be dry with some sunny spells here throughout. Highs at 7 to 12C.

Thursday 10/2/11 The area of high pressure will try to hold on over eastern parts of the country, with lower pressure to the west. More western areas are going to be cloudy and breezier once again with periods of rain. The east should stay largely dry with some sunny spells. Mild for all at 8 to 13C. Friday 11/2/11 Little change through the day on Friday with low pressure west of Ireland and higher pressure to the east. There will be some cloud and outbreaks of rain affecting more eastern and southern areas, whilst the east is likely to be staying dry although rather cloudy. Highs at 8 to 13C. Saturday 12/2/11 There are indications that high pressure will try to build back through the country today. This is going to be bringing more settled weather with some good spells of sunshine to most. It will push the rain back westwards, this probably fading away from Ireland later. Highs will be near 9 to 14C.
