Aeros 2, Curve 1 Akron lefthander Giovanni Soto (6-6, 3.73 ERA) threw a nine-inning no-hitter, shutting down Altoona in an Eastern League game in front of 3,572 in Akron.
Soto, who walked three and struck out six, became the first Aeros pitcher to throw a no-hitter at Canal Park, which opened on April 10, 1997.
The Aeros (54-39) staked Soto to a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the first inning, and extended the lead to 2-0 in the fourth when losing pitcher Phil Irwin (1-7) hit RF Thomas Neal (.301) to lead off the inning. Neal advanced to third on 3B Ryan Rohlinger's (.230) single to right, and scored on an infield hit by C Michel Hernandez (.212).
AAA Columbus Clippers
Indians 4, Clippers 3 3B Russ Canzler (.276) hit his 14th home run of the season, but Columbus lost in Indianapolis in an International League game. T.J. McFarland (3-3, 5.44) gave up four runs in five innings to take the loss.1/3
Advanced A Carolina Mudcats
Mudcats 10, Keys 6 CF Carlos Moncrief (.249) hit a grand slam in the first inning to lead Carolina to a victory over host Frederick in a Carolina League game.
Jordan Cooper (5-3, 3.62) pitched five solid innings in relief to get the victory. Starter Danny Salazar gave up four runs in three innings of work.
A Lake County Captains
Captains 8, Snappers 5 CF Luigi Rodriguez (.277) went 4-for-4, including a two-run homer, as host Lake County defeated Beloit in a Midwest League game.
3B Todd Hankins (.256) also hit a two-run homer for the Captains, and SS Francisco Lindor (.264) his a solo shot.
A Mahoning Valley Scrappers
Scrappers at Renegades, postponed The Scrappers' game against Hudson Valley in Fishkill, N.Y., was postponed. The teams will play a doubleheader today, beginning at 11:05 a.m.
