Russ Canzler's eighth homer can't prevent Clippers loss: Minor League Report

Knuckleballer Wright solid in Aeros win, Luigi Rodriguez's big night not enough for Captains, Scrappers shut out by State College.

AAA Columbus Clippers

IronPigs 9, Clippers 4: Columbus right-handed starter Chris Schwinden (4-6, 3.38) got shelled for seven runs (six earned) in four innings, and the Clippers lost the International League game Friday to visiting Lehigh Valley (Pa.)

Clippers RF Russ Canzler (.275) had two hits, including his eighth homer of the season.

AA Akron Aeros

Aeros 4, Curve 3: Akron right-handed knuckleballer Steven Wright (6-4, 1.99) struck out seven in 6.2 innings and LF Nick Weglarz (.250) had two RBI as the Aeros won the Eastern League game in Altoona, Pa.

Wright gave up three runs on four hits and three walks. Righty Preston Guilmet (2.36) pitched the ninth for his ninth save.

A Lake County Captains

TinCaps 4, Captains 3: Captains CF Luigi Rodriguez (.286) had four hits, including a two-run homer in the ninth inning, but Lake County's rally fell short in the Midwest League game in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Rodriguez has five homers this season.

Righty Felix Sterling (3-6, 5.63) started for Lake County and gave up four runs (two earned) in four innings. He allowed six hits and three walks while striking out five.

A Mahoning Valley Scrappers

Spikes 4, Scrappers 0: Indians first-round pick Tyler Naquin (.375) went 0-for-4 -- as did many other Scrappers -- and Mahoning Valley lost the New York-Penn League game in State College, Pa.

Advanced A Carolina Mudcats

Mudcats vs. Blue Rocks, ppd.: Carolina's Carolina League game against visiting Wilmington (Del.) was rained out. The teams will play a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.
